Tryout FAQ’s

Which tryout session(s) should I attend?

You should attend both days of tryouts for your age group. Please verify your birth date to ensure you are attending the correct age group’s tryout session. If you have to miss either day of tryouts, we are accepting video submissions to help coaches complete a thorough evaluation.

When are the HP team tryouts?

We will be trying out everyone in a particular age group at one time.

How will athletes be evaluated and selected?

During tryouts there will be multiple coaches evaluating athletes on Skill Level, Athleticism, Coachability/Attitude, Communication, and various other factors. 100% can-do attitude and effort are always expected.

What if I can’t make tryouts or can’t make both tryout days?

If you have to miss tryouts for any reason (state tournament, injury, etc.), we are also accepting video submissions as an evaluation tool. Here’s what we are looking for:

  • 15+ minutes of continuous match or practice footage
  • A 2-3 minutes highlight video

How do I try out for an older age group team?

If a particular athlete desires to play in an older age group and is of sufficient skill-level, please attend the first day of tryouts of your age group and let the evaluating coaches know during tryouts. Be prepared to stay for the older age group tryout as well.

When will the team offers be released?

We try to release teams as soon as the evaluation is complete and the coaches have had a chance to discuss. There are many athletes and we want to be sure we are giving each athlete a thorough and fair assessment. Please be patient with the process. Offers will go out by the end of November.

Can I still participate if I play another sport?

Yes, however club volleyball is a commitment and athletes will only improve by attending practices. High Performance teams may limit the number of multi-sport athletes on a team to ensure continuity and ability to field a competitive team for tournaments. Please let us know if you are a multi-sport athlete and are unable to commit to a high performance team.
